winter fun 2.JPG

Once winter hits, hiking becomes a chillier option and it's time for skiing, sledging/ tobogganing and ice-skating.

It can be hard to predict what weather is likely to be like up on the moutains, but luckily many have snow-cams that can be checked beforehand.

Here are our favourite spots!

For ski lessons and other ski destinations, visit our dedicated skiing page.

This small ski area in Unterägeri has restricted opening hours, but is great for families. The official opening hours are Saturdays & Sundays 09:00-16:15; and Wednesdays 12:00-16:15; however it is weather dependent so do check their website. There is a children's lift and a T-bar, and sledging is also possible. Enjoy food and drinks at the Nollenstübli or at the Landgasthof Schutzen.

Above Oberägeri, this has a free large sledging hill, as well as a small ski slope (suitable for children and beginners). It also has a restaurant (listed in our Eating Out page), winter walks, a large playground and a horse-drawn sleigh.

Sledges can be rented and there's a small kiosk next to the ski lift that sells drinks and snacks.

There are a few sledging runs on Rigi accessed by the Rigi trains. Children should be accompanied by an adult and there are cable cars or shuttle services that take sledgers back up to the start.
There are various ski areas for beginners and those more advanced. We have one suggested address below but there are others - see the web link below or call +41 41 399 87 87.

A great spot for sledging, hiking and even ski lessons- when there is enough snow! Check the website before you head here.

Rental of sledges suitable for adults and older children is from Talstation Schönegg.

The Schlittelstrasse track has nets and is regularly maintained but there are some icy spots and helmets are recommended.
