From the moment the slopes open (around early December) until they shut up shop in the spring, most families will be spending a good portion of their weekends on the slopes. One of the joys of living in Zug is the proximity to a range of ski slopes, with options for beginners and more seasoned skiers. Here is a range of local ski schools to get you (and the kids) started...
Brunni ALPTHAL
45 minutes from Zug, Brunni Alpthal prides itself on its children's facilities including tobogganing and a magic carpet. There are two ski schools which operate from Brunni Alpthal - Einsiedeln and Rapperswil-Jona - linked to below, as well as private instructors.

Brunni ENGELBERG
This is a great option for families with new skiers as the Klostermatte area is set up for complete beginners, while more experienced skiers take the Gondola further up the mountain. Snowboarding and cross country lessons are available, as are parent and child classes for age 2+

SKI SCHOOL FLUMSERBERG
Flumserberg is 1.5 hours from Zug, but offers a larger selection of runs. The ski school has group lessons for skiing and snowboarding, also private lessons for skiing, snowboarding, cross-country, telemark and snowshoeing. This year there will be a new children's adventure park in the forest.

SKI SCHOOL KLEWENALP-stockhütte
An hour from Zug, this ski school offers group lessons for ski and snowboarding, and private lessons. No reservation is needed for children's ski lessons as long as you are 15 minutes early. There is a crèche on Stockhütte for CHF15, then CHF10 for every hour after that.

SKI SCHOOL Sattel-HOCHSTUCKLI
Sattel is a small resort, but what it loses on runs, it gains on proximity - being just 25 minutes from Zug. The ski school provides both private and group lessons- for children aged 3+ and adults. Access to the ski school is by gondola, and parents will have to buy a ticket even if not skiing (reduced with a halbtax card).

SKI SCHOOL SCHWYZ
35 minutes drive from Zug, this ski school is in the Mythenregion and boasts 50km of pistes. Lessons are run by the Ski School Sattel-Hochstuckli, with the ski school to be found at the top of the gondola.

SKI SCHOOL YBRIG
Group and private lessons for children and adults are available at Oberiberg and Hoch-Ybrig, which is 50 minutes drive from Zug. There is a Snowli club to help 3-4 year olds find their feet, and a race academy for those with the know-how.
