FASNACHT 2020

It may seem like winter has barely got going - but plans are afoot throughout Switzerland to scare it off.  Fasnacht is the Swiss carnival season - so grab some bags of confetti in the supermarket and join the parties!  Traditionally this is when people mock authority, so expect political comment in with the parades. One element it's good to know in advance is there's a significant number of people in parades who paint their faces black, which can be a bit of a shock.  There are lots of celebrations -  check here to see them all...

OBERÄGERI, SATURDAY 18th January onwards

The guy with the droopy hat who features heavily in the Oberägeri Fasnacht is Legor, a jester of Duke Leopold's in 1315.  They stopped over in Oberägeri and he was such a hit with the locals that Fasnacht has been his party ever since.  The children's party is from 1.30pm-5pm, with the main celebrations from 8pm.  All local celebrations are here.
